Death
Not Just About Humankind
It
has been stated by one Old Earth Creationist (OEC) that - "I'm not saying
that more than humanity wasn't effected. I'm saying that the the two verses
given are about mankind. [sic]"
Let's
say for a fleeting moment, that the verses:
·
“…death
spread to all men…”
·
“…death
reigned…”
·
“…by
a man came death…”
relates
only, and expressly, to humankind and therefore also exclusively to humankind's
death, and thus not to animal, or plant, deaths of any kind.
From
this basic premise, we now open the floodgates for the death(s) of everything
from bacterium to Apes and everything in between, possibly over millions and
billions of years. This process, after
all, is really suggesting that what the #GHADE claim with respect to a
millions, and even billions, of years’ time lines are correct and true, and also
that the process was “guided” by a ‘Supreme Being’ (Progressive Creation /
Theistic Evolution).
This
premise presents, I believe, numerous challenges:
i)
-
why would G-d call something wrought with pain, anguish, sickness and even
death, - "very good"?
ii)
-
did G-d (Christ) use some form of trial and error methodology[1] of
getting from the first most basic form of organic matter, simple bacterium,
through to Apes (man's quasi closest evolutionary relative, according to the
#GHADE)?
iii)
-
is there a part of the general writing style of Genesis Chapter One which
presents itself as "poetic", "parabolic" or as "figurative?
iv)
-
did G-d use the descriptor of “In Six Days”, as presented in Genesis Chapter
One, in order to cause confusion?
v)
- is it easier to argue somehow that the words
used in Genesis Chapter One do not simply mean what their plain straightforward
rendering means, than is it to simply take them at face value?
vi)
-
in view of the very plain words found in Exodus 20:11 and 31:17, upon what
basis does one conclude that “day” in the context of Genesis Chapter One means
anything but a "24-hour day"?
vii)
-
although far from conclusive, in view of the first implied notation of animal deaths
being in Genesis Chapter Three, verse 21, upon what basis, or criteria, does one conclude
that any deaths occurred prior to that point in time?
viii)

doesn’t it seem like a stretch (at best) to draw conclusions based upon ideas
that - "well, the text *MIGHT* mean ____"?

why would G-d say: “I did it In Six Days”?
x)
-
why would G-d allow his inspired author, Moses, to write - "G-d did it In
Six Days”?
In verses 3, 10, 12, 18, 21, 25 and 31
of Genesis Chapter One we read the word "good". It is repeated seven times through the
progression of creative days. G-d even
uses the word “good” twice on the “Second Day”.
And in fact in verse 31 it is preceded by the word "very"
rendering the subject matter, being all of G-d's (Christ's) creation – “Very Good".
It seems to defy logic, that a series of organic matter from the most
basic and simple from bacterium to Apes, underwent millions and possibly
billions of years of death (really, destruction, pain, suffering, anguish,
sickness and finally death), and still be called - "very good".
It
seems to defy logic that G-d's creative processes are reduced to the lowest
common denominator, almost as if we are comparing G-d's creative works, taking
billions of years, with [1]Thomas Edison's c. ~ 2,000 failed
attempts at making a light-bulb. To do
so requires applying some very broad meanings to the simple words found in the
writing style of Genesis Chapter One.
The general writing style of Genesis Chapter One does not present itself
as "poetic", "parabolic" or as "figurative. Rather, the general writing style of Genesis
Chapter One appears to be much more just a plain, simple and straightforward
historical narrative.
The
use of the descriptive of In Six Days as presented in Genesis Chapter One, is
also very much supported by the clear, and also very plain words found in
Exodus 20:11, as well as Exodus 31:17.
To argue somehow that the word "day" does not truly mean a
simple, as we see it today, "24-hour day", is a stretch to say the
least.
As someone
stated elsewhere in that same thread - "In Genesis 3:21 the Lord God make
coats of [animal] skins and clothed [Adam and Eve]. Maybe [the] first animal
was killed for [its] skins because of [man's sins] ..."? (emphasis in
square parentheses mine)
All-in-all,
it just seems like a stretch (at best) to draw conclusion based upon ideas that
- "well, the text *MIGHT* mean ____" - especially on the heels of the
plain wording of the text meaning something vastly different. When all is said and done, looking to ways to
suggest that the text *MIGHT* mean something that agrees with the #GHADE's
evolutionary deep time / ancient ages *theories*, really only begs the question
– WHY?
Why, if G-d (Christ)
really did take millions and billions of years, through countless trillions of
trial and error, deaths, inaccuracies and destruction, would G-d either:
Say –
“I did it In Six Days”?
or
Allow
his inspired author, Moses, to write - "G-d did it In Six Days”?
“No
Jesus, NO peace” and yet, “Know Jesus, KNOW peace”
How
does one get to “know” Jesus? Simple,
invite Him into your heart, as Jesus says: “Here I am! I stand at the door and
knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with
him, and he with me.” [Revelation
3:20 NIV] How can be assured that this Jesus stuff
means anything? Well because the Bible
tells us so, as the Apostle Paul wrote:
“If
you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that
God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For it is with your heart
that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess
your faith and are saved.” [Romans
10:9-10 NIV]
And
for those of you who say to me, I can’t be bothered reading the Bible, “it’s
confusing” or “it’s a waste of my time”, may I draw your attention to what the
Bible says about wisdom: “The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom, and
knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.” [Proverbs 9:10 NIV]

John
3:16 says: “For God so loved the world
that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not
perish but have eternal life.”
And
John 14:6 says: “Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No
one comes to the Father except through me.”
