Peddling
Enoch
The temptation
of Eve, and peddling, like a huckster, myriad esoteric, spurious, un-inspired,
extrabiblical books, that do not belong in Biblical Canon, or - Peddling Enoch
Those
who tout the Book of Enoch remind me, in their methodologies and general
conduct, of Satan and her* approach to Eve, Genesis Chapter Three.
You
may be asking - "What does the Book of Enoch, and those who it tout it and
their methodologies; and what does the general conduct, of Satan and her*
approach to Eve, Genesis Chapter Three, have, even remotely to do with each
other?" - read on my friends, read on!
In
Genesis Three we read first that Satan approached Eve with a twisted question
(read, accusation) about Scripture. That
ancient Serpent, Satan / allaah of Islam, asked Eve:
“Did
G-d actually say, ‘You shall not eat of any tree in the garden’?” - Genesis
3:1, did you catch that? The Serpent
used the words - "shall NOT EAT of ANY tree"...
Eve
responded to the Serpent by saying:
"...said
to the Serpent, “We may eat of the fruit of the trees in the garden, 3 but G-d
said, ‘You shall not eat of the fruit of the tree that is in the midst of the
garden, neither shall you touch it, lest you die'.” - Genesis 3:2 & 3, did
you catch this? Eve used the words -
"neither shall you TOUCH it"...
The
reason, at least in part, for why these few words - "shall NOT EAT of ANY
tree" and "neither shall you TOUCH it" - are significant is
this:
In
BOTH cases, the query from Satan, and the reply from Eve, the Words of G-d
(Christ) were twisted, modified and added to.
Does such twisting, modifying and adding to really matter? Does it
change the substantive meaning of G-d's Holy Word? Let's have a look shall we!
In
Genesis Chapter Two, verse 17 we read: - "...of the tree of the knowledge
of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall
surely die.”
Now,
let's compare what the Scripture says with what satan and Eve both claimed.
G-d
said - "shall not eat of THE [ONE] tree of the knowledge of good and
evil" - while satan asked - "did G-d actually say 'shall NOT EAT of
ANY tree'?" See the difference? G-d
expressly said, 'not eat from ONE very specific tree', while satan accused G-d
of saying, 'not eat from ANY tree'! Still think that's not a big deal?
Next,
let's look at how Eve' reply to the Serpent, differs with, or differs from,
what G-d actually did say, to Adam, shall we?
In
Genesis Chapter Two, verse 17, G-d said - "shall not eat of tree of the knowledge of good and evil, or
die" - while Eve replied - "G-d said, ‘You shall not eat of the fruit
of the tree that is in the midst of the garden, neither shall you touch it,
lest you die'." See the difference?
There
are actually a couple of nuggets of interest, for me, in the contrast. First, and most glaringly obvious to me, is
the contrast between what G-d said - "shall not eat of the tree of the
knowledge of good and evil" - while Eve's reply in addition to the words,
'do not eat from the tree of knowledge', includes the phrase - "do not
even touch it". But there's also a sneakier, or subtle difference... in
Eve's reply, Genesis 3:3, we read the words - "SHALL NOT EAT OF the fruit
of the tree that is IN THE MIDST of the garden. But let's again look at what
G-d did say, in Genesis 2:17 - "shall not eat of the tree of the knowledge
of good and evil". G-d was very specific in His Command to Adam, 'shall
not eat of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, or you will die.' And
die that day**
About
the only thing that neither satan, nor Eve, did not bastardize of G-d's edicts,
regarding this prohibition from eating of the tree of knowledge, was the consequence
for breaching the command. And even that
has been twisted, many times many ways.
But that is a subject for another post.
So,
you may still be asking - "what does this have to do with those who tout
the Book of Enoch, those who peddle it, and the methodologies & general
conduct, of them and Satan and her* approach to Eve, Genesis Chapter
Three?" It has been my personal
experience that most, if not all, people who try to sell the Book of Enoch,
follow the same basic example of Satan and Eve, in Genesis Chapter 3.
These
folk will take G-d's Word, and twist it.
They will them take the already questionable content of the spurious,
and esoteric Book of Enoch***, and further bastardize, and twist the words in a
satanic attempt to, essentially, 'marry one with the other.' But it does not stop there, if those touting
the Book of Enoch cannot persuade their audience through simple twisting of
Scripture and other text, they will begin appealing to one's emotional desires,
likes and sensibilities, just as Satan did with Eve in Genesis 3:5, wherein
she* said to Eve – “...your eyes will be opened, you will be like G-d, and you
will 'know good from evil.” For they
know that between pride (we humans do not want to be seen as making mistakes,
or errors, thus an appeal to greater, allegedly 'more godly knowledge') and an
earnest desire to grown into a deeper, more substantive relationship with G-d, these
folks will say things that tug at our heartstrings, and raise questions about
how truly we desire "G-d's deeper truths".
“Don't
you want to know G-d in a deeper, richer way?” - you'll be asked. “Aren't you interested in the deeper things
of G-d?” They will taunt. And then the attempts at shaming, coupled
with all manner of claims about conspiracy theories that one is ignoring, and
rejecting, including accusations of one being very ungodly, simply because one
rejects, out of hand, as Scripture anything apart from G-d's Holy Word, the
Bible. The 66 Books of established
Canon.
Would
you like to know G-d in a deeper, richer way?
Great, me too. Find a good, Bible
based local church, and most importantly pray to G-d the Father, in Jesus name
for a deeper, richer relationship with Christ.
And... and read G-d's Holy Word, the Bible. The 66 Books of established Canon!
So, now... do you see
a little bit more about what the contrast, and similarities between Satan and
Eve's temptation, and those who seek to have G-d's people wasting time and
energy 'studying' all manner of esoteric, spurious, un-inspired books,
including but not limited to, the Book of Enoch, are? I hope you do... Shalom!
“No
Jesus, NO peace” and yet, “Know Jesus, KNOW peace”
How
does one get to “know” Jesus? Simple,
invite Him into your heart, as Jesus says: “Here I am! I stand at the door and
knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with
him, and he with me.” [Revelation
3:20 NIV] How can be assured that this Jesus stuff
means anything? Well because the Bible
tells us so, as the Apostle Paul wrote:
“If
you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that
God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For it is with your heart
that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess
your faith and are saved.” [Romans
10:9-10 NIV]
And
for those of you who say to me, I can’t be bothered reading the Bible, “it’s
confusing” or “it’s a waste of my time”, may I draw your attention to what the
Bible says about wisdom: “The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom, and
knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.” [Proverbs 9:10 NIV]

John
3:16 says: “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that
whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.”
And
John 14:6 says: “Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No
one comes to the Father except through me.”

Dying the day of the sin, there is an entire message just dealing with The Hebrew word “yom” ( יוֹם ) and the most meaningful application for rendering “yom” into
other languages. For now, just
consider briefly that both Adam and Eve did A) - die a horrific spiritual
death, the very moment that Adam ate of the forbidden fruit, and B ) - based
upon an application of Psalm 90:4 and II Peter 3:8, wherein we read that -
"day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day" - both
Adam and Eve did die within less than 'a day', or 'less than 1,000 years',
Genesis 5:5, "...the days that Adam lived were 930 years, and he
died."
