Bible Reading, and Structured Bible Study / Devotionals

If you’re like many folks, reading… especially Bible Reading can seem like drudgery. Some of that is our flesh, see this Facebook post on “Blaming far too much on Ole toothless (Satan)”, as both Pastor M.E. Woody and Mr. Roland Hildebrant have some great insights including but not limited to: “Why would he (Satan) need to bother, our flesh keeps us busy with problems.” Woody, and as Roland says, “There also is the problem of demonizing the "flesh".” But some of it is legitimately ‘ole toothless’ and his utter hate-filled disdain for both G-d (Christ) and Christians, and an ancient, deep seated (dare I say entrenched) passionate desire to keep G-d’s children (Christians) from getting to know our daddy.

have pointed out to me, there are numerous really, really, excellent free
online resources, that allow one to listen to the various Biblical texts, and
they are free to use. They offer the
Biblical texts in numerous English renderings and some of those are presented
with a certain dramatic flair, and best of all, they are free to use. There is at least one online resource that
not only presents the audio with a dramatic flair, it also utilizes video, oh
and… have I mentioned they are free? As most of us commute somewhere, for at least
several minutes each day, I submit a few choices for listening, while on said
daily commutes!

How
does one get to “know” Jesus? Simple,
invite Him into your heart, as Jesus says: “Here I am! I stand at the door and
knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with
him, and he with me.” [Revelation
3:20 NIV] How can be assured that this Jesus stuff
means anything? Well because the Bible
tells us so, as the Apostle Paul wrote:
“If
you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that
God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For it is with your heart
that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess
your faith and are saved.” [Romans
10:9-10 NIV]
And
for those of you who say to me, I can’t be bothered reading the Bible, “it’s
confusing” or “it’s a waste of my time”, may I draw your attention to what the
Bible says about wisdom: “The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom, and
knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.” [Proverbs 9:10 NIV]

3:16 says: “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that
whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.”
And
John 14:6 says: “Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No
one comes to the Father except through me.”
