Adam to Moses in 560 Words

Adam to Moses in 560 Words

Adam to Moses in 560 Words (see footnotes)

In the beginning, nearly 5,781 years (+/- 150 years) ago

In the beginning, nearly 5,781 years ago, in the year 1 Anno Mundi (AM) (perhaps referred to as “year zero” ∅) or about 3,850 BC, +/- 150 years, G-d (Christ), Elohim, created hashomayim (the Heavens, Himel) and haaretz (the Earth). – Bereshis (Genesis) 1:1, see also Shemot (Exodus) 20:11 & Shemot (Exodus) 31:17

Some c.~ 1,656 years later1

Some c.~ 1,656 years later, in the year 1656 AM +/- 75 years, or about 2205 BC +/- 75 years, “In the six hundredth year of Noach’s (Noah’s) life, in the second month, the seventeenth day of the month, the same day were all the fountains of the great deep burst open, and the floodgates of Shomayim (the Heavens) were opened.” – Bereshis (Genesis) 7:11  Over the course of the next 40 days - “… kol basar (all flesh) perished that moved upon ha’aretz, (Every living thing that moved on land perished) both of Oph, and of Behemah, and of Beast, and of every Swarming Thing that swarms upon ha’aretz, and kol haadam; (birds, livestock, wild animals, all the creatures that swarm over the earth, and all mankind.)” - Bereshis (Genesis) 7:21

Roughly a year later, in the year 1657 AM +/- 75 years, or about 2204 BC, the flood waters had receded sufficiently for Noah and his sons, Shem, Ham and Japheth, and their wives, along with the myriad animals on the Ark, to disembark, and began their new lives.4

In the year 1657 AM +/- 75 years, or 2204 BC +/- 75 years, with the flood waters receding, about a year after the flood began, in 1656 AM we read - “And it came to pass in the six hundredth and first year, in the first month, the first day of the month, the mayim (water) were dried up from off ha’aretz (Earth); and Noach removed the mikhseh (covering) of the tevah (ark), and looked, and, hinei (saw that), the surface of the adamah (ground) was dry.” – Bereshis (Genesis) 8:13 - 18

The descendants of Adam, from Day Six, in 1 AM through c.~ 1656 AM, had to be (at a minimum) several Two Billion3.  Much more likely, several billion, with at least a statistical chance at nearly 10 trillion4.  Yet… only eight (8) humans survived.  Alas, I digress, back to tracing humankind from Adam to Moses.

From the conclusion of the flood, through to the birth Abraham, the timeframe encompasses nearly 4005 years (393 years), bringing us to 2,050 AM (years since the creation of Adam), or roughly 1811 BC.  In the c.~ 400 years from Shem to Abraham, we have some characters of notable notoriety, namely Nimrod6, Job7 and of course a Pharaoh8 or two!

Continuing our quest of tracing humankind from Adam to Moses, now will need to peruse a few different Chapters from Genesis, to follow the genealogies.  From Abraham to Joseph, we have approximately 250 years9.  (Jacob’s name was changed to Israel10)  This brings us to about 2,300 AM, or roughly 1561 BC.  For the final three people, in this review of the line from Adam to Moses, being Kohath, Amram and then Moses, we need to work backwards a little bit from when history tells us Moses lived11, and take into account three other things, A) - that Moses is actually a descendent of Levi’s (Levi is Joseph’s older brother12), and not a descendant of Joseph, B) - that up to this point in the process of tracking Adam to Moses, we have already covered a timespan of some c.~ 2,300 years out of a total c.~ 2,500 years +/- 75 years since Adam (leaving only about c.~200 years +/- 50 years), and C) of the c.~ 425 years from Abraham to Moses, we have covered some c.~ 250 years, ergo… once again, we have approximately 175 years +/- 25 years left unaccounted for.  With A, B and C in mind, let us now consider the info we do have.

Moses, we are told, lived to be 12013 years of age.   If pick a single date, say 126714 BC (out of a date range of 1472 BC - 1251 BC) for estimating Moses’ year of death, taking what we know about Moses being 12013 years old when he passed away, we can approximate his year of birth at c.~ 1491 BC (this would also equate to approximately 2,370 AM) these numbers would move, smaller or larger with the date ranges provided, depending on source(s) relied on.  Continuing this process

“No Jesus, NO peace” and yet, “Know Jesus, KNOW peace”

How does one get to “know” Jesus?  Simple, invite Him into your heart, as Jesus says: “Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with him, and he with me.” [Revelation 3:20 NIV]  How can be assured that this Jesus stuff means anything?  Well because the Bible tells us so, as the Apostle Paul wrote:

“If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved.” [Romans 10:9-10 NIV]

And for those of you who say to me, I can’t be bothered reading the Bible, “it’s confusing” or “it’s a waste of my time”, may I draw your attention to what the Bible says about wisdom: “The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom, and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.” [Proverbs 9:10 NIV]

If nothing else, PLEASE read two chapters from the Bible – (don’t own one, sorry NO excuse, if you’re reading this, you can access this: http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=John%203:16&version=NIV) John 3 and John 14!

John 3:16 says: “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.”

And John 14:6 says: “Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”

7 - Job - Was Job a contemporary of Moses?  Was Job a contemporary of Abraham?  Did Job possibly live before the great deluge? This author, who for various reasons he will not go into in the context of this article, does not believe that the prospects of Job being antediluvian are of any substantive significance.  That said, here are some articles for review - "Did Job live before Abraham or before Noah?" - https://bit.ly/3zz4Nyh - Chicago Bible Students and "Is Job included on the Bible Timeline?" - https://bit.ly/3xvFjQQ - Amazing Bible Timeline with World History, by Margaret Hunter, 2013 © and "When and Where did Job Live?" - https://bit.ly/3cQZrET - Truth Watchers, By Heath Henning, 2018 © and "DID JOB LIVE BEFORE OR AFTER THE FLOOD IN NOAH’S DAY?" - https://bit.ly/3iOHU41 - American Bible Society, and "Job" - https://bit.ly/2U9G3wl - Institute for Creation Research

8 - Pharoah’s, did they live in Moses’ day, or not?  The opinions are both many and varied.  Consider "We may now know which Egyptian Pharaoh challenged Moses" - https://on.natgeo.com/3wB0MaZ - National Geographic, by BYJEAN-PIERRE ISBOUTS, 2018 © and "Who was the pharaoh of the Exodus?" - https://bit.ly/3gA83lF - The Jerusalem Post, By STEPHEN GABRIEL ROSENBERG, 2018 © and "Israelites and the Egyptian Pyramids" - https://bit.ly/35xZZeY - Learn Religions, By Sam O'Neal, 2019 © and "The Pyramids of Ancient Egypt" - https://bit.ly/3wCi4o4 - Answers in Genesis, by David Down, 2004 ©

20 Abraham had Isaac 100 – vs 5 (Genesis 21)

21 Isaac to Jacob (later, Jacob’s name was changed to Israel10) 60 – vs 26 (Genesis 25)

22 Jacob to Joseph 91 – vs Genesis 47:28, 41:46 & 45:6

We get, if we add the ages of the first named sons, beginning with Abraham’s son through to the birth of Joseph, c.~ 250 (251) years.  Adding 250 to the previously established 2,050, we arrive at – c.~ 2,300 years from Adam’s creation to Joseph’s birth, or c.~ 1561 BC.

10 - Jacob undergoes a name change, and is henceforth known as Israel - Genesis 32:22 - 32

11 - For Moses, according to - https://bit.ly/3wwRGvI - “The World History Encyclopedia” we are told ‘Moses lived around 1400 BC’, additionally Mr. William G. Dever (2001). Wrote - What Did the Biblical Writers Know and When Did They Know It?  What Archeology Can Tell Us About the Reality of Ancient Israel. Wm. B. Eerdmans Publishing. p. 99. ISBN 978-0-8028-2126-3. “A Moses-like figure may have existed somewhere in southern Transjordan in the mid-late 13th century s.c., where many scholars think the biblical traditions concerning the god Yahweh arose.” – emphasis in bold and underscored, mine

12 - Levi born to Jacob’s wife Leah - Genesis 35:23

13 - Moses died at the age of 120 - Deuteronomy 34:7

14 - From History and Genesis, “Estimates from historical records and Biblical texts in 199 words”

22 - Jacob to Levi 67 – estimated year of birth, 1585 BC (or 2,276 AM), for Levi

23 - Levi to Kohath 20 – estimated year of birth, 1565 BC (or 2,296 AM), for Kohath - interestingly about four years before Joseph was born

24 - Kohath to Amram 42 – estimated year of birth, 1523 BC (or 2,338 AM), for Amram

And finally, 25 - Amram to Moses 136 – estimated year of birth, 1387 BC (or 2,474 AM), for Moses.

We get, if we add the ages of these three people (excluding Levi), 20 + 42 + 136 = 198 years, bearing in mind that the ages listed are estimates.  Yes, the 67 years for Levi are not counted, because Levi’s 67 years are already included in (and therefore counted with) the 250 years described in Note 9 above.  Taking away Moses’ 120 years before passing away, and we arrive at an estimated year of death of 1267 BC.  Adding 198 to the previously established 2,276 when Levi was born, we arrive at – c.~ 2,476 years from Adam’s creation to Moses’ birth, or c.~ 1387 BC.
