Incarnation to Resurrection, Day Eighty

Incarnation to Resurrection

#‎RAD #‎ATEND G-d (Christ) #‎IIC714

Incarnation to Resurrection roughly three and one-half years, in 12 weeks, Sunday through Friday (six days) per week

Day Eighty of Eighty-four:

Today we read of Jesus’ final few hours of abuse, and beatings, before His gruesome crucifixion.  This day is oft dubbed “The Maundy Day”, or in traditional Church history “Maundy Thursday” is the more common term.  The word Maundy is derived from the Latin word for “command.” The “Maundy” in “Maundy Thursday” [or “Maundy Day” if you will] refers to the command Jesus gave to the disciples at the Last Supper, that they should love and serve one another.”[1]  But it also, as I recall from my Anglican (Episcopalian) days, deals with the ideal of us, G-d's (Christ's) creation, pausing to give some reflection on the serious anguish Christ went through on the eve of His crucifixion...

And on this “Maundy Day”, we review the text found in Matthew 27:15 - 23 & Mark 15:6 - 15, wherein we read that, A) - Pilate released Barabbas (in trade for the execution of Jesus) and B) - Pilate sentenced Jesus to death, by execution through crucifixion.  Sobering set of texts.

We’ll also read in Matthew 27:27 - 31, Mark 15:16 - 20 and John 19:2 - 5 about how
Jesus was mocked, abused, beaten and even humiliated with a scarlet robe and a crown of thorns.  How the people berated and ridiculed Jesus with cat-calls like - “Hail, King of the Jews!” followed by Jesus being spat upon, and of course many, many more beatings.  All before being led out to, forced to walk the path to the crucifixion site, carrying His own instrument of execution, the timber for His cross.

We’ll close today’s reading, by reading ahead a little, with the text from Matthew 27:36 - 38, Mark 15:25 - 27, Luke 23:37 - 39 and John 19:18 - 20 where we see that Pilate had a sign posted over Jesus’ which said - “Jesus of Nazareth, the King of the Jews.” We are also told in John Specifically that the sign was written in three Languages, Hebrew (some translations use Aramaic), Latin and Greek.  It from the Latin that we get the classic acronym “INRI” which literally means “Iesus Nazarenus Rex Iudaeorum”.  This sign is not only very powerful, it’s also very prophetic, because Jesus was not only King of the Jews, He is The King of kings!

And that right there ^ ^ ^ that, my friends, is… GOOD NEWS!

We’ll leave reading the rest of the text for you individually.

I’ve taken the liberty of assembling a weekly chart of daily readings to cover the chronology

“No Jesus, NO peace” and yet, “Know Jesus, KNOW peace”

How does one get to “know” Jesus?  Simple, invite Him into your heart, as Jesus says: “Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with him, and he with me.” [Revelation 3:20 NIV]  How can be assured that this Jesus stuff means anything?  Well because the Bible tells us so, as the Apostle Paul wrote:

“If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved.” [Romans 10:9-10 NIV]

And for those of you who say to me, I can’t be bothered reading the Bible, “it’s confusing” or “it’s a waste of my time”, may I draw your attention to what the Bible says about wisdom: “The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom, and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.” [Proverbs 9:10 NIV]

If nothing else, PLEASE read two chapters from the Bible – (don’t own one, sorry NO excuse, if you’re reading this, you can access this: http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=John%203:16&version=NIV) John 3 and John 14!

John 3:16 says: “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.”

And John 14:6 says: “Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”
