Incarnation to Resurrection, Day Seventy-eight

Incarnation to Resurrection

#‎RAD #‎ATEND G-d (Christ) #‎IIC714

Incarnation to Resurrection roughly three and one-half years, in 12 weeks, Sunday through Friday (six days) per week

Day Seventy-eight of Eighty-four:

Through today’s readings we’ll look at, I all four Gospel accounts, what might be dubbed - “The Betrayal, Arrest and "Priestly" beatings of Jesus”.  Jesus is betrayed by Judas and arrested - Matthew 26:47 - 56, Mark 14:43 - 50, Luke 22:47 - 53 & John 18:1 - 11 - where we read these stinging words - “Friend, do what you came to do.” - Matthew 26:50 - as a reminder of what Jesus’ final week on Earth was beginning to shape up like.  Later in Matthew 26:57 - 68 & John 18:12 - 14 we read of lies being told about Jesus, and of Jesus being beaten, mocked and abused while ‘in the care’ of the High Priests and Council.

Today we also read of a fascinating story of both unprecedented zeal, Peter cuts off the ear of a Servant of the High Priest, and then of Peter’s own denial of Jesus - First the ear cut off, Matthew 26:51, Mark 14:47, Luke 22:50 & John 18:10; next Peter’s denial, as we read in Luke 22:54 - 62, John 18:15 - 18 and Mark 14:66 - 72 (although the account in Mark in included in tomorrow’s reading.  This account of zeal and denial hold a special place of intrigue for me, because these are two areas I struggle with.  Jesus, although He did rebuke Peter, He did not “condemn” Peter for zealously lobbing off a man’s ear.  Additionally, although Peter unquestionably did deny Jesus, and deny Him THREE (3) times, Jesus still did not reject, “let go of” or “lose” anyone (except as Judas…).

How Jesus’ dealt with both Peter’s zeal and denial, and how Peter went on to boldly proclaim the Gospel, even to his own demise in the years that followed Christ’s joke of an arrest, is an inspiration to me, and it’s my sincere prayer that it might be an inspiration to you also.

We also read, as we wrap up today’s readings from John - “Of those whom you gave me I have lost not one.” - John 18:9.  See also John 6:39, John 17:12 and John 18:8 - 10.  Jesus promised, John 6:39 to ‘lose no one’, Jesus Commanded in John 18:8, and Jesus repeated in John 18:9 - “I have lost not one”!

And that right there ^ ^ ^ that, my friends, is… GOOD NEWS!

We’ll leave reading the rest of the text for you individually.

I’ve taken the liberty of assembling a weekly chart of daily readings to cover the chronology

“No Jesus, NO peace” and yet, “Know Jesus, KNOW peace”

How does one get to “know” Jesus?  Simple, invite Him into your heart, as Jesus says: “Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with him, and he with me.” [Revelation 3:20 NIV]  How can be assured that this Jesus stuff means anything?  Well because the Bible tells us so, as the Apostle Paul wrote:

“If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved.” [Romans 10:9-10 NIV]

And for those of you who say to me, I can’t be bothered reading the Bible, “it’s confusing” or “it’s a waste of my time”, may I draw your attention to what the Bible says about wisdom: “The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom, and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.” [Proverbs 9:10 NIV]

If nothing else, PLEASE read two chapters from the Bible – (don’t own one, sorry NO excuse, if you’re reading this, you can access this: http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=John%203:16&version=NIV) John 3 and John 14!

John 3:16 says: “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.”

And John 14:6 says: “Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”
