Incarnation to Resurrection
Incarnation to Resurrection roughly three and one-half
years, in 12 weeks, Sunday through Friday (six days) per week
Day Forty-one of Eighty-four:
Today after we review this past week’s
posts, where we read of Jesus being ejected at Nazareth, “Just a Carpenter’s son, right?” and “Jesus sending out the Twelve Apostles”, from Sunday.
And about of the death of John the Baptist - Mark 6:14-29, teaser from John 6:16-21 of Jesus Walking on
Water! Plus the point where Jesus introduces His
teaching that – “I Am the Bread of Life.” - John 6:22 – 34.
As well as a review of the English word “believe” for the Greek word
pisteuó, “πιστεύω”, which is a bit
of a misnomer. The Greek word,
although “believe’ is certainly part of its meaning, has a much deeper
meaning. It literally means to “have
faith in”; “trust in”; and for us to be “entrusted” in G-d’s care. All from
Monday and Tuesday’s text.
On Wednesday we read
more about Jesus Walking on Water, this time from Mark’s perspective, Mark 6:45-52. As well as more from Jesus about Him being “the bread of life”. And on
Thursday we looked at Matthew 15:10 - 20 & Mark 7:14 - 23 and considered what Jesus had to say about What
Defiles a Person (foods taken in, and words spoken forth. And we saw Jesus continued teaching that He
is - “the
Bread of Life.” from John 6:48 –
59.
Thus we’ll pick up
today with the story of The Faith of a Canaanite Woman, Matthew 15:21 – 28 and Mark 7:24-30 Jesus had some profound Words for this lady
from Canaan. He said to her – “I’ve got my hands
full dealing with the lost sheep of Israel.” and “It’s not right to take bread out of children’s mouths
and throw it to dogs.” – Matthew 15:24
& 26, yet her reply to Him is almost as equally profound – “Yes, Master, but
even the dogs eat the crumbs that fall from their masters’ table.”, Matthew 15:27 See also Mark 7:24 - 30 Jesus closes His dialogue with off by saying – “…O woman, great is
your faith! Be it done for you as you desire.” And her daughter was healed
instantly.” – Matthew 15:28
This is
particularly interesting to me because, you see, Jesus does not use the
expression “great faith” loosely. In fact,
it appears in the KJV bible in only three (3) places, Matthew 8:10 where we read
of the Jesus healing the servant of a Centurion as touched on in the Blog from January
28th, in Matthew 15:28
(which we just looked at) and in Luke 7:9 also touched on in the Blog from January
28th. Twice Jesus used the Greek word
“tosoutos” (τοσοῦτος) phonetically ‘tos-oo'-tos’, which means – “so great, so
large” - Matthew 8:10 & Luke 7:9,
although these are about the same servant of the Roman Centurion. And once he used the Greek word “megas”
( μέγας ) phonetically ‘meg'-as’, which means - “large, great, in the widest
sense” - Matthew 15:28 And in all three cases Jesus used the Greek word
“pistis” ( πίστις ) phonetically ‘pis'-tis’, which means - “faith, belief,
trust, confidence in”.
To we read Dr.
Luke’s account, Luke 9:10 – 17, of the Feeding the Five
Thousand, and from John we
read of the Disciples struggle with Jesus’ ‘hard words’ John 6:60 - 71.
In fact, in verse 66 we read “…After this a lot
of his disciples left. They no longer wanted to be associated with him.”, I mean wow right?
Careful… even Peter had his doubts, but Jesus *knows* His sheep, stating
that He handpicked
the Twelve!
And that, that
right there ^ ^ ^ that, my friends,
is… GOOD NEWS!
And with this, I shall once more wish you an early Shabbat Shalom…
We’ll leave reading the rest of the text for you individually.

“No Jesus, NO peace” and yet, “Know Jesus, KNOW peace”
How does one get to “know” Jesus? Simple, invite Him into your heart, as Jesus
says: “Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and
opens the door, I will come in and eat with him, and he with me.” [Revelation 3:20 NIV]
How can be assured that this Jesus stuff means anything? Well because the Bible tells us so, as the
Apostle Paul wrote:
“If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is
Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be
saved. 10 For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it
is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved.” [Romans 10:9-10 NIV]
And for those of you who say to me, I
can’t be bothered reading the Bible, “it’s confusing” or “it’s a waste of my
time”, may I draw your attention to what the Bible says about wisdom: “The fear
of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom, and knowledge of the Holy One is
understanding.” [Proverbs 9:10 NIV]
If nothing else, PLEASE read two chapters
from the Bible – (don’t own one, sorry NO excuse, if you’re reading this, you
can access this: http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=John%203:16&version=NIV) John 3 and John
14!
John 3:16 says: “For God so loved the
world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not
perish but have eternal life.”
And John 14:6 says: “Jesus answered, “I am
the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through
me.”
