Incarnation to Resurrection, Day Forty-seven

Incarnation to Resurrection

#‎RAD #‎ATEND G-d (Christ) #‎IIC714

Incarnation to Resurrection roughly three and one-half years, in 12 weeks, Sunday through Friday (six days) per week

Day Forty-seven of Eighty-four:

Today we read of yet more miraculous healing by Jesus.  Who knew that a man for whom the modern-day atheists claim - “never even ever existed” - and a man who did nothing but lead insurrections and anarchy, would be responsible for healing so vary many people?  And yet, Jesus was no doubt a man, 100% through and through.  He was (still is) also 100% G-d!  Amazing right?  Today we once again read of Jesus predicting His soon coming death.  And just what would life be like without prideful bickering… Mark 9:33 - 37; Luke 9:46 - 48, - “…who’s the greatest?”.

And then also in today’s reading we see another profound passage which, among numerous other things, strongly serves to exemplify the need for us to consider - “context” - awesome! In Luke 9:49 & 50 we read these words - “Do not stop him, for the one who is not against you is for you.” - ESV  This is, in my opinion, a very close second (next to Matthew 7:1) for being one of the most quote-bombed, taken out of context passages, in the entire 66 Books of Canon.  What do I mean by context?  Well, in my Blog from January 10th - “Basic Rules For Interpretation Of Written Text” - I give some more detailed explanations, including these four basic guidelines:

“…words that A) - Come immediately before and after them in each verse; B) - Are within the immediately preceding and subsequent paragraph(s); C) - Are within that specific book.  And finally, when studying the Biblical text, wherein the text is not just from one Book, but indeed from many Books (66 Canonical Books) D) - The context and meaning of the words that make up the entirety of the Bible must be considered…”

In this case by context we’ll look at three passages, one more in Luke and the other two in the remaining two Synoptic Gospels, where the phraseology is similar, yet uniquely distinct.  First, in Matthew 12:30, which we looked at back in Week Four, we read the direct reverse of Luke 9:50 - “Whoever is not with me is against me”. - NIV  Next in Luke 11:23, which we’ll delve into next week, we read - “…who is not with Me is against Me…” - HCSB  And finally in Mark 9:40 , which will be covered within tomorrow’s reading, we read again - “the one who is not against us is for us” - ESV

Thus, twice we see Jesus being quoted, using a passive stance, saying - “Hey, if they’re not saying, ‘Jesus sucks’, then don’t fret about them!”  While in two other spots we see Jesus stating in a much more active sense, essentially - “Hey, if they ain’t sayin’ ‘Jesus Rocks’, then they oppose, or hate, us.”  An important distinction to consider are the immediate verses, before or after, as applicable, for each verse in question.  In the case of both Mark 9:40 and Luke 9:50, the immediately preceding verses simply show John crying - “Master, we seen these folk that we don’ know, driving out demons In Your Name”.  Clearly not engaging in any action, or behaviour, that anyone might typically deem “un-Christ-like” (except of course maybe for a Pharisee, or two).  But, in the other two verses, Matthew 12:30 and Luke 11:23, where we see Jesus being a little more ‘in your face, as we can discover Jesus talking about a house divided against itself, and Jesus gets into His teachings on Blasphemy against the Holy Ghost… And that’s a heavy theological point that Theologians far better than I might ever even hope to be, have argued over for nearly two millennia!  Although it is mentioned in my Blog from Friday, 19 January 2018, Day Thirteen.

All of the above considered with, two other passages in mind, John 14:6, which we won’t even be looking at for nearly another four weeks, and what amounts to (in many ways) a continuation of the Gospel of Jesus according to Luke, being Acts 4:12, which is unfortunately not part of this wee trek, from Incarnation to Resurrection.  Both Jesus, and the Early Church Fathers (ECF’s) stated very clearly - “Jesus is the ONLY way” - period!

Once again, that… that too right there ^ ^ ^ that, my friends, is… GOOD NEWS!

We’ll leave reading the rest of the text for you individually.

I’ve taken the liberty of assembling a weekly chart of daily readings to cover the chronology

“No Jesus, NO peace” and yet, “Know Jesus, KNOW peace”

How does one get to “know” Jesus?  Simple, invite Him into your heart, as Jesus says: “Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with him, and he with me.” [Revelation 3:20 NIV]  How can be assured that this Jesus stuff means anything?  Well because the Bible tells us so, as the Apostle Paul wrote:

“If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved.” [Romans 10:9-10 NIV]

And for those of you who say to me, I can’t be bothered reading the Bible, “it’s confusing” or “it’s a waste of my time”, may I draw your attention to what the Bible says about wisdom: “The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom, and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.” [Proverbs 9:10 NIV]

If nothing else, PLEASE read two chapters from the Bible – (don’t own one, sorry NO excuse, if you’re reading this, you can access this: http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=John%203:16&version=NIV) John 3 and John 14!

John 3:16 says: “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.”

And John 14:6 says: “Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”
