Incarnation to Resurrection
#RAD #ATEND G-d (Christ) #IIC714
Incarnation to Resurrection roughly three and one-half
years, in 12 weeks, Sunday through Friday (six days) per week
Day Fifteen of Eighty-four
Today, we’ll take a deeper look at the
full nine (9) points of The Beatitudes found in Matthew 5:1 - 12, from the Sermon on the Mount, not to be confused
with the brief “teaser Beatitudes of this shorter list of just four (4)” from Luke 6:22 that we looked at last week. In this Sermon Jesus said:
2.
“Blessed
are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted.”
3.
“Blessed
are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth.”
4.
“Blessed
are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied.”
5.
“Blessed
are the merciful, for they shall receive mercy.”
6.
“Blessed
are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.”
7.
“Blessed
are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God.”
8.
“Blessed
are those who are persecuted for righteousness' sake, for theirs is the kingdom
of heaven.”
9.
“Blessed
are you when others revile you and persecute you and utter all kinds of evil
against you falsely on my account.”
Before we get too
side tracked, let’s consider the question most should be asking “How many
Beatitudes are there?” Shouldn’t there maybe be ‘12 or even 15
Beatitudes’ across two lists, one from Luke 6:22 & one from Matthew 5:1 - 12, one of four and
one of eight + three (11), possibly with some duplication?” Perhaps… but that is best set aside for now,
and reviewed in another study, G-d (Christ) willing. For now let’s stick with a few highlights
from what we see in Matthew 5:1 – 16.
Jesus said, in both Matthew 5 and Luke 6, “Blessed are those who…” and then He lists a series of examples of who, and what, truly “blessed” people are. His list includes words like meek, merciful, peacemakers and persecuted. He also describes people ‘who are poor in spirit’, ‘who hunger and thirst for G-d’s righteousness’, ‘who are pure in heart’ and ‘who are persecuted for the sake of righteousness’, and that’s just in Matthew 5:1 – 10. Then in Matthew 5:11 we also read of three additional traits, characteristics or conditions wherein Jesus says “Blessed are those who are reviled by others”; “Blessed are you when others persecute you”; “Blessed are you when others utter all kinds of evil against you falsely on my account.” When we Christians are reviled by others, hated, loathed or detested, by others, on account of (or because of) Jesus, we are BLESSED. When we Christians are persecuted by others, hated, wronged, mistreated or victimized by others, because of our faith in, our relationship with, or our reliance on… Jesus, we are BLESSED. When we Christians are wrongly accused by others, incorrectly suspected, mistakenly assumed guilty or even erroneously distrusted by others, because of our faith in, our relationship with, or our reliance on… Jesus, we are BLESSED. These are tough things to hear, or read, I know. Yet they hold amazing truths, that… if we would simply trust G-d, we would know peace, by way of knowing Jesus, like only a child of the Most High G-d can have.

Jesus closes off
the Sermon on the Mount by saying – “…rejoice and triumph, because your reward
is great in Heaven, for just so they persecuted The Prophets who were before
you.” – Matthew 5:12, Aramaic
Bible in Plain English
Next across verses
13 – 16 of Matthew Chapter Five we read of Jesus’ teaching about “salt &
light”. In this brief section of
Scripture Jesus presents with a simple yet profound truth, we (followers of
Christ) are G-d’s LIGHT on Earth. We are
to let our light (the Light of Jesus) shine boldly on wherever we go, and at
every opportunity. See also I Peter 3:15, and note that verse 16 closes with this statement
that ‘shining G-d’s LIGHT will “prompt people to open up with God”.
And that, right
there ^ ^ ^ that, my friends, is
GOOD NEWS!

“No Jesus, NO peace” and yet, “Know Jesus, KNOW peace”
How does one get to “know” Jesus? Simple, invite Him into your heart, as Jesus
says: “Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and
opens the door, I will come in and eat with him, and he with me.” [Revelation 3:20 NIV]
How can be assured that this Jesus stuff means anything? Well because the Bible tells us so, as the
Apostle Paul wrote:
“If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is
Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be
saved. 10 For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it
is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved.” [Romans 10:9-10 NIV]
And for those of you who say to me, I
can’t be bothered reading the Bible, “it’s confusing” or “it’s a waste of my
time”, may I draw your attention to what the Bible says about wisdom: “The fear
of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom, and knowledge of the Holy One is
understanding.” [Proverbs 9:10 NIV]
If nothing else, PLEASE read two chapters
from the Bible – (don’t own one, sorry NO excuse, if you’re reading this, you
can access this: http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=John%203:16&version=NIV) John 3 and John
14!
John 3:16 says: “For God so loved the
world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not
perish but have eternal life.”
And John 14:6 says: “Jesus answered, “I am
the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through
me.”
