The Just Shall Live by Faith

As it is written in the words Jeremiah (Yirmeyahu):

"(²³) Here is what Adonai says: “The wise man should not boast of his wisdom, the powerful should not boast of his power, the wealthy should not boast of his wealth;

(²⁴) instead, let the boaster boast about this: that he understands and knows me —that I am Adonai, practicing grace, justice and righteousness in the land; for in these things I take pleasure,” says Adonai." – Yirmeyahu 9:23-24

JESUS said – “If ye love me, keep my commandments.” – John 14:15, KJV

Jesus also says, to all who read and are reading, this – “Come to me! Do not reject my Gospel”:

“(²⁸) Come to me all of you who are struggling and burdened, and I will give you rest.

(²⁹) Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, because I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.

(³⁰) For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.” - Matthew 11:28-30 CJB

Before we get too terribly caught up on the word “commandments” (or Commands) used by Jesus, please remember the Ten Commandments. Yet, there are not just 10, but in fact there are actually some 613+ rabbinical Commandments, and no one can keep them all. Did you catch that no one can keep them all – I John 1:8 and James 2:10.

But wait... There be but ONE Commandment!

It is interesting to find in the TaNaKh*, (what we Christians call the “Old Testament”) that:

David reduced the 613 laws to 11 (Psalm 15).

Isaiah reduced the 11 to Six (Isaiah 33:15).

Micah reduced the Six to Three (Micah 6:8).

Once again, Isaiah brought the Three down to Two** (Isaiah 56:1)

And, finally, Habakkuk reduced them all to ONE: "The just shall live by faith" (Habakkuk 2:4).***

But now, in the pages of the New Testament, we learn that the scribes were teaching that Moses had received greater than 613 laws. How wholly hypocritical of those scribes and Pharisees! – Matthew (Mattityahu) 23:2. Woe indeed to the Parush who boast: ‘O G-d! I thank you that I am not like the rest of humanity — greedy, dishonest, immoral, or like this tax-collector!' (or those other evil non-legalistic folk, who disobey any of your many Laws) – Luke (Lukas) 18:11, CJB

In Matthew 5:17-18 we read that, ‘not one yod or stroke shall pass away from my Law’ [paraphrased]. “The LAW” ->>> "The just shall live by faith" <<<- (Habakkuk 2:4)

And before you get to being too ‘judgy’, about “keeping the LAW”, pause, read and reflect on “Know them by…”, because… Hallelu-YAH, there be FREEDOM in Jesus the Christ / Yeshua Ha Mashiach (Rabbi Yeshua bar Yosef) Praise G-d (Christ) Almighty, Hallelu-YAH!

“No Jesus, NO peace” and yet, “Know Jesus, KNOW peace”

How does one get to “know” Jesus? Simple, invite Him into your heart, as Jesus says: “Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with him, and he with me.” [Revelation 3:20 NIV] How can be assured that this Jesus stuff means anything? Well because the Bible tells us so, as the Apostle Paul wrote:

“If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved.” [Romans 10:9-10 NIV]

And for those of you who say to me, I can’t be bothered reading the Bible, “it’s confusing” or “it’s a waste of my time”, may I draw your attention to what the Bible says about wisdom: “The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom, and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.” [Proverbs 9:10 NIV]

If nothing else, PLEASE read two chapters from the Bible – (don’t own one, sorry NO excuse, if you’re reading this, you can access this: http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=John%203:16&version=NIV) John 3 and John 14!

John 3:16 says: “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.”

And John 14:6 says: “Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”
